Funding Photojournalism in the New Media Economy

Durham University academic David Campbell explores the effect of the Internet on the traditional news outlets in four parts. The third part concentrates specifically on photojournalism and how we might expect it to be funded in the future. David makes some excellent points, specifically:

  • News is not limited to newspapers, which have been in steady decline since the advent of television.
  • The means of distribution (web vs. print) does not necessarily dictate the quality of journalism.
  • Reminiscing on a past ‘golden age’ of journalism is useless – the parameters have changed, the outlets must adapt in order to survive.
